I want to share with you 2 steps of a 4 step formula to feel energized and enthusiastic each day. Next week, I will give you the last two steps.
When you have a rough day, customers aren’t happy, the employee doesn’t show up, overwhelm has set in, prospect changes their mind, you can doubt yourself. You might think, “Why to bother?” You feel your energy drop and just want to pull the covers over your head and hide.
An antidote to Doubt Wouldn’t it be great to have a way to counteract the doubt and overwhelm? What if you were you were able to re-engage with your day, bounce back and take charge so that your day ends well, wouldn’t that be great?
Grab the Compass of Your Heart
The Compass of the Heart is your GPS to make the greatest impact –
C² + A² = Impact. Compassion, Acceptance, Appreciation, Connection. When you give yourself these four elements, you can have unlimited energy and resources to solve problems.
Step One Compassion
When things go wrong, the first thing we do is beat ourselves up! Put ourselves down and be mean to ourselves. No wonder your energy drops!
What if instead, you had compassion for you? How you do that is to take a deep breath. Deep breathing will take you from a fight or flight reaction to a reasoned response as you use your thinking brain rather than your emotional brain.
Now, ask yourself, “What is the most nurturing, loving thing I can do for me in this moment?” It could be to just sit and take a few more breaths to get refocused and remember your TAGs so that know how Talented, Able and Gifted (TAGs) you are. It might be to have a cup of tea or go for a short walk. Be gentle with you. See what solutions come.
Write down the difference that would that make. How would the rest of your day go?
Acceptance
What if instead of judging you as not enough or inadequate, what if you allowed yourself to just be where are? Acceptance comes from telling yourself the truth about who you are, as you are.
In some areas of our life we are in Kindergarten and in other areas, we are in graduate school. There is no shame or blame. It is just where you are.
Where you are in Kindergarten, give yourself a break. Rejoice and be excited about all the learning you get to do. You get to develop your TAGs and discover more about you! (Notice I am not saying, “have to, but instead I am saying get to?”)
Where you are in graduate school, make sure you honor and value these TAGs and don’t underestimate the gift you are to the world!
It is not that you are not enough; it is that you do not use them enough of who you are to live a satisfied life.
Write down what difference it would make if you delighted in learning new skills and celebrated who you are and used all you got!
With Compassion and Acceptance, you have 2 key ingredients to feel more at peace with who you are. As you are more relaxed, you will have more energy and be more excited about your day.
A “bad” day, can turn around as you honor you for the steps you took. You can feel great about who you are.
